The 16th Biennial ACOT Conference marks a momentous occasion as the first in-person gathering of the Caribbean occupational therapy community since the COVID-19 pandemic. Hosted under the inspiring theme “Making Waves Across the Caribbean,” the conference celebrates the resilience, creativity, and unity that define the region’s occupational therapists, students, educators, and partners.
This year’s event emphasizes movement, innovation, and collaboration, highlighting each participant’s vital role in shaping the future of occupational therapy in the Caribbean. Attendees have the opportunity to engage in dynamic presentations, meaningful discussions, and opportunities for professional connection and growth.
The Honourable Minister for Social Development & Education, Mrs. Shellya Rogers-Webster, welcomed delegates to Anguilla and commended Dr. Kniquiah Hughes, President of the Association, for her dedicated efforts in raising awareness of occupational therapy within the local community and across the region. As a proud daughter of Anguilla, Dr. Hughes has made significant contributions to bringing occupational therapy to the island, offering education and support to patients and their families, and continuing advocacy for the expansion of services in hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Delano Mussington, who shared his personal experience and how occupational therapy has supported his reintegration into daily life. In keeping with the conference theme, Dr. Hughes remarked, “We are not only making waves, but we are riding the waves across the region.” Chairperson, Dr. Douglene Jackson, also highlighted delegates from across the Caribbean, including Trinidad & Tobago, Dominica, Haiti, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, and St. Maarten.
As the occupational therapy community unites once more, the conference seeks to reignite a shared sense of purpose, celebrate diversity, and inspire continued advancement of the profession across the Caribbean — guided by compassion, creativity, and courage.
The general public is invited to the Community Day event to learn more about occupational therapy at the UWI Open Campus on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
